A KEYBOARD THAT PUTS YOU IN CONTROL To put it simply, the CTRL mechanical keyboard has it all. Constructed with a solid aluminum frame with a built-in switch plate, it’s stable and fortified. And thanks to the hot-swap switch sockets, it allows you to change switches whenever you want with no soldering required. It’s also fully programmable via QMK, meaning you can assign macros or custom keybinds to every key. With dual USB-C connectors, the CTRL is outfitted with the fastest available connections. Aesthetically, the keyboard is equally impressive. Featuring customizable RGB backlighting and underlighting, it puts on a colorful show; or you can set it to a single color for a more subtle look. The shine-through PBT keycaps only enhance the performance. What’s more, the keyboard comes with your choice of switches, so you can get just the feel you like—whether you prefer something heavy and tactile or lightweight and linear. OPTIMIZED PER-KEY LIGHTING WITH MILLIONS OF COLORS The switches on the CTRL feature light pipes that are optimized to deliver the most light possible through the keycaps. No matter what tone you want, you’ll have your choice from millions of colors for every single key. Feel free to program the lighting to cycle through the entire spectrum, or set it to a two-toned look to match your setup. There’s also a built-in translucent LED diffuser to minimize hotspots found in many other keyboards. Worried about flickering? Don’t be. The LEDs operate at a frequency of 100 Hz, so there won't be any visible flicker. FULLY PROGRAMMABLE VIA QMK Customizing your keyboard is a lot of fun. That’s why the CTRL features a fully programmable layout, designed for modification. Using QMK firmware, you have total control over every key. Plus, the configurator allows you to program macros and customized keymapping, so you can easily fine-tune your keyboard for gaming, work, or play. It’s also outfitted with two USB type-C connectors (one on each side), allowing you to transfer data and charge devices at USB 2.0 speeds. The Cherry MX Blue has a distinct “click” sound when depressed beyond the tactile point, making it the loudest switch in the Cherry MX family. The separated slider construction also provides the highest tactile feedback. A good blend of typing and gaming. Cherry MX Brown is widely considered to be the best “middle-ground” switch. Its tactile bump, silent travel, and medium actuation force makes it a versatile switch. Primarily typing. The Halo Clear being with a slight preload and a lighter, sharper tactile bump than the Halo True. Halo Clears discourage bottom out, but not as strongly as the Halo True. A good blend of typing and gaming. Medium weight, smooth tactile action, and a purposefully light preload are intended to reduce jarring fingertip impacts during rapid typing. Moderately heavy spring to discourage bottom out. A good blend of typing and gaming. Kaihua Box White switches are IP56 waterproof and dust resistant switches. Intended for gaming. Essentially a shortened version of existing MX-style switches allowing for faster actuation. I was hesitant on spending more than $100 on a keyboard but after biting the bullet, I can say it was definitely worth it. The keys have a very pleasant sound to them when they're clicked, feel nice to the touch, and the keyboard itself is pretty hefty. The hot swap allows you to experience other switches without replacing the entire keyboard, but I would advise against frequently swapping the switches. Using QMK, you have a lot of freedom for software customization such as macros, RBG customization, and keymapping. There are two USB C ports, one is used for connecting to your device, and the second can be used to power another peripheral. So, you could connect your mouse to the keyboard, or even a numpad if needed, and I find this really useful as I sometimes do need to use one. One issue I had was the keyboard being too tall, but a wrist wrest helps with that. I suggest getting one if you are going to use this for long periods at a time. Overall, a solid option and I would recommend it to anyone wanting a premium keyboard experience.
